The role of Kent Schools' Rugby Football Union

The Rugby Football Union has defined a new role for County Schools' Unions (CSUs), which we have amended to fit our local position.

Kent Schools' RFU is the CSU for Kent and Medway, together with the London Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lewisham Lambeth. Kent Schools' RFU represents the interests of schools' rugby and recruits new member schools.

a)  It can advise Kent County RFU (KCRFU), Kent Game Development Committee (KGDC) and the Rugby Development Officers (RDOs) on educational matters, both rugby and non-rugby.

b) It can elect representatives to KCRFU, KGDC,
England Rugby Football Schools' Union (ERFSU) and any other relevant body.

c) It can contribute to KGDC's Planning process and the implementation of the KCRFU Action Plan.

d) It works in the RFU Academy Liaison Group.

e) It can advise and liaise with ERFSU and KGDC on governance issues such as drugs awareness and school tour applications.

f) It is fully involved in KCRFU’s disciplinary process, involving the appointment of a KCRFU Discipline Secretary (who deals with Youth discipline too).

g) It promotes representative rugby to its member schools, but does not recruit and nominate coaches and selectors for KGDC.

h) It promotes, organises and facilitates a balanced and equitable programme of local school rugby competitions, festivals, events and leagues as required.

i) It organises its finances, administration and membership.

j) It helps to identify training needs and promote in-service courses for  teachers and students.

k) It recruits and involves properly CRB checked AOTTs where necessary to ensure that all activities which have been organised are suitably supervised.

l) It helps to promote school rugby achievements and news in the media.
