Be aware of how to deal with possible concussion

The site is essential reading for those who have responsibility for the heatlh, safety and welfare of young rugby players.

Research and discussion means updates to advice so you should revisit this site regularly: As a professional you would be expected to be aware.

For example: More work is being done around GRTP (Graduated Return to Play) and GRTE (Graduated Return to Education)

VERY IMPORTANTLY:
All the HEADCASE resources are being updated; they will provide formal advice about information sharing (some CSUs think that they can tell others if a player has suffered a concussion). In essence:

  • Responsibility for communicating a player’s fitness to play between environments sits primarily with parents and this should be made clear in all guidance.
  • Communication can only occur with the consent of the parents.
  • We need to encourage better communication on such issues where there are ‘shared’ players between clubs/schools/academies/county etc…..

PLEASE encourage all your colleagues to study the information and advice at

DON'T BE A HEADCASE

We have included another page in this section about symptoms of concussion:  If a player bumps his/her head or you see it jarred you can direct parents to the page so they know how to monitor

The rule is fairly simple

If ANY of the symptoms occur - medical attention

Unconscious for only a few moments - ambulance
